  • Absidia is an opportunist that is highly infective in children and others with depressed immune systems.
  • Particularly susceptible to zygomycosis are the undernourished, people with acidosis, diabetes, and people on: corticosteroids, antibiotics or antileukemic drugs.
  • Skin infections are an additional problem that can be caused by this opportunistic mold. If it finds a break in the skin, it can grow out of control and lead to major health problems.
