Mold Test Kit Instructions

USE TESTING MATERIALS AS SOON AS YOU RECEIVE THEM.

Locate the area or areas you wish to test.  Some suggested rooms for testing are areas where you have the most problems with sneezing and/or coughing or the following:

Kitchen  Living/Family Room  Bedroom(s)  Bathroom(s)  Playroom(s)

Office (home & work)  Basement – In large homes, use 2 plates  Crawlspace

Do what you normally do.  For example, do not turn on the air conditioning unless that is part of your normal activity.  However, DO turn the central fan on the heating and air conditioning system in the on position.  Do not sweep or vacuum just before the test.  Children and pets can continue to be in the areas that are being tested, but do NOT allow them to touch the testing materials.

ACT NORMALLY!!!

  • Keep the windows closed for six hours prior to testing.
  • Carefully open the testing materials.  Do not touch the insides of the test plates.
  • Do not place in DIRECT SUNLIGHT.
  • Lift the top straight up.  The top is the part without the gelatin in it.
  • Without turning it over, place the top beside the test plate.
  • Run test one hour.
  • DO NOT turn the top upside down.
  • Put the top back on the plate.
  • Secure the top with tape on each side.
  • Write your name, the name of the room tested, and the date on the bottom of the plate with a PERMANENT MARKER.
  • Wrap everything in aluminum foil and store in a warm dry area.
  • Start checking test kits after 72 hours for mold growth.  Most growth occurs between 3 to 4 days.
  • If mold growth is present after the incubation period, then lab analysis is STRONGLY RECOMMENDED.
  • If you choose to have analysis done, put the material into the box it came in.
  • Include the Lab Analysis Form and payment with your plates.
  • Mail test kits to the address in the upper right hand corner.
